Answers:

1)   What is the Silver Ring Thing?
The Silver Ring Thing is a unique para-church youth ministry that promotes the message of abstinence until marriage using two programs- an intense Live Event and the packaged SRT 434 Program.

LIVE EVENT- SRT's 2.5 hour stage performance incorporates high energy music, special effects, fast-paced video, personal testimonies, and comedy all delivered in a concert-style approach with which teenagers can respond and relate. The program also conveys God's message of forgiveness and new beginnings with an opportunity to embrace a "second virginity." Students who make a commitment to abstinence may purchase a silver ring as a symbol and reminder of their decision. After each event, students who make this commitment are followed-up by SRT staff with 40 e-mails over the next 4 months that encourage and equip these students in their commitment. This event is targeted at middle/high school students (ages 12-18) but is also relevant to college and young adult ages. A parent's seminar is also held at each event to educate parents about what is happening in today's youth culture and how they can encourage and support their child's abstinence commitment.

SRT 434 PROGRAM- The SRT 434 Program offers four DVD-enhanced Bible study sessions on sexual decision-making facilitated by a youth pastor or leader in a small group or youth group setting. The program is shaped after the energy and excitement of the Live Event and challenges teenagers to make and keep a commitment of abstinence until marriage. 2)   How do I get a ring?

The SRT silver ring (pictured right) is not a "piece of jewelry." The ring is worn as the symbol and constant reminder of the faith decision and vow pledged before God Almighty to remain abstinent until marriage.  The silver ring comes in both broad and narrow widths from sizes 4-14 and can only be purchased after going through either of two SRT programs below- the SRT Live Event or the SRT 434 packaged abstinence program for small groups.

1. SRT Live Events (click here for schedule)

2. The SRT 434 packaged abstinence program (click here for more info)

By far, the best way to get the full impact of the Silver Ring Thing Abstinence Program is to attend a live event. We encourage you to register online to receive discounts on paid admission events and to guarantee your seat at the venue. If there are no events listed in your area and you would like more information on scheduling a SRT Live Event, please fill out our online booking inquiry form and a SRT representative will get back to you shortly.

If you have a youth group, small group, Sunday school class, Christian school, etc. or there is not a Live Event in your area, then the SRT 434 Program is your best option. This program contains both student and parent materials.  The SRT 434 Program is also an excellent follow-up program for students who have attended a SRT Live Event. To take your students through a very relevant and exciting program for sexual abstinence, please click here or on the SRT 434 box below for more details.

3)   How old do you have to be to attend a Silver Ring Thing event?

The Silver Ring Thing Live Event is designed to reach high school and middle school students, as these are the years during which they are forced to make decisions about their sexuality.  Ideally, 12+ yrs. old is the earliest we suggest.  College students and young adults are also encouraged to attend, as many find the program content both relevant and engaging to their age group.

Parents are strongly encouraged to attend as they are the leading influence in their children's sexual decision-making.  A Parent's Session is held simultaneous to the start of each Live Event to inform parents of the sexual nature of today's youth culture and how they can effectively support and encourage their children in an abstinence decision.  For more info on the Parent's Session please click here.

4)   How do you talk about sex without becoming graphic?
At a SRT Live Event, we are careful not to speak in "graphic" terms for three reasons, (a) the age differences in the room, (b) this is basically the parent's role, (c) this kind of information is better explained one-on-one and not in a group setting. We focus instead on the emotional, mental, relational, and spiritual results of engaging in pre-marital sex and the blessings of waiting until marriage.

5)   What about students who are already sexually active?
All of us have messed up or made mistakes in one way or another.  At a SRT Live Event, we address this question in the Second Virginity message which speaks directly to the issues and problems that sexually active students have encountered. We recognize the fact that many students who attend the SRT are, or have been, sexually active and they need to know it is possible to start over. We speak plainly on the forgiveness and love Jesus Christ offers to change your future.  The answer is YES YOU CAN START OVER and, in fact, for this reason many students attend our program.

6)   What happens after you make a commitment and put on a ring? How do you deal with temptation?
Once a person puts on the ring, the second phase of the Silver Ring Thing begins. It is a rare thing for a person not to be tempted, and we want the SRT to be available whenever it is needed. The silver ring and the abstinence vow are a critical first step. Our ongoing support is a 12-step follow-up program including e-mail follow-up, staff/travel team/internship training, an accountability partner, SRT 434 Follow-up Program, devotionals, etc.

7)   Who runs the SRT program and who is behind it?
SRT is independently operated as a non-profit organization. This program was formerly part of the John Guest Team but has gained independence in 2005 to become a non-denominational parachurch ministry. The Silver Ring Thing Live Event is presented by a high-energy group of talented students and young adults who possess an exceptional ability to relate to middle and high school students. Specific training in communications, leadership, drama, presentation skills, and technical support is provided by experienced adult staff who constantly monitor the quality of the presentations and the message being conveyed.

The USA SRT National Office is located in Moon Twp, Pennsylvania, with local teams in a few select cities and international offices in England, South Africa, and Brazil.

8)   Can parents attend a SRT Live Event?

ABSOLUTELY!!
