- SRT 434...
- A Packaged Abstinence Program for Youth Groups and Small Groups.
What is it?
The SRT 434 Program is a 4-week, DVD-enhanced Bible study designed to train youth groups and small groups of teens and young adults to understand and embrace the challenge to remain abstinent until marriage. The program prepares and motivates the students to take a strong stand for sexual abstinence and battle against the cultural pressures to be sexually active.
In addition, the SRT 434 Program has been designed to reach parents as part of the overall strategy to help teens delay sexual activity. Parents are the number one influencer in a teenager’s sexual decision making. While teenagers are participating in their program, parents receive materials and go through a similar study in their individual homes. (click here)
The "434" in the title of the program comes from the verse inscribed on each ring, 1 Thessalonians 4:3-4, which states, "It is God's will that you should be sanctified: that each of you should learn to control your own body in a way that is holy and honorable." The ring itself comes in both broad and narrow widths from sizes 4-14 and is pictured here:
Who is it for?
SRT 434 is designed for guys and girls, from teenagers through young adults and their parents.
What to order and when?
Once the SRT 434 program has been examined and reviewed online the group leader should:
- order (1) Leaders package and (1) Parents Package. The leader should examine the materials when they arrive and pass the parents package around to several parents to encourage their participation as well as their teen.
- Once the decision is made to go forward with the SRT 434 program, the leader will order enough Student packets for his/her entire group.
*Each student package includes a SRT ring as pictured above.
The Student Program
The SRT 434 Program contains four sessions, each following the same format of small group discussion, DVD clips from the Live Show, and strong Scripture support. To view a promotional video for the SRT 434 Student Program click here.
Week 1 - Temptation
This session looks at the obvious and more subtle ways teenagers and young adults can be tempted sexually. The SRT Bible will be examined to see how God can help young people overcome temptation in their daily lives, how to support one another and what to do when tempted to give into sexual pressure.
Week 2 - How far can I go?
This session is not about what is and is not acceptable according to a book of rules on sexual abstinence. Rather it is about setting boundaries and respecting one another in dating relationships. This session challenges students to move away from "What can I get away with?" and towards "How disciplined can I be in following God's plan for my life?" A student testimony from the SRT Live Event is offered on the DVD to make this message more personal.
Week 3 - Consequences
“There are consequences for our actions” … However, some actions can produce life-altering and life-threatening consequences. In this session we look at a range of positive consequences of abstinence and negative consequences of pre-marital sex. Students will also learn about some of the issues that come with contracting a sexually transmitted disease as well as the consequences of an unwanted pregnancy.
In your small group discussions you will consider the emotional and spiritual consequences of a sexual relationship outside marriage. You will also discuss the wonderful hope for restoration of emotional scars.
Week 4 - Where does God fit in?
Without God, a decision to be sexually abstinent until marriage is nearly impossible. The key is for a young person to get their relationship with the Lord straightened out before making a decision to be abstinent until marriage. The SRT 434 program brings an evangelical message for the teenagers to respond to as they anticipate putting on the silver ring and making a vow to wait. The verse on the ring confirms God’s place in this decision, “It is God’s will that you be sanctified, that you avoid all sexual immorality. That you learn to control your body in a way that is holy and honorable. (I Thess. 4: 3-4) Therefore, Only when God is in control of this area of a teenagers life should we expect their life to end up being “Holy and Honorable”… in God’s eyes. In this session young people will learn to do just that.
